There is no better way to add a little life to your home than using potted plants. The beautiful accents go a long way toward creating your own soothing oasis from the hectic world. Not only are they attractive but they clean the air in your home. When you are ready to incorporate greenery into your decor, there are a few things to consider.

Planning and Placement

Plants come in all shapes, sizes, and light needs. Before buying, look at your home. Are you trying to liven up an empty corner? Are you looking to start a windowsill herb garden? Plan your additions according to the area, not the other way around. A great example would be if you wanted to liven up a breakfast nook, you could buy trailing plants such as a Golden Pothos and train it to vine across the curtain rods. Now you have an enchanting garden-like dining area.

Window gardens are growing in popularity among apartment dwellers. A carefully planned arrangement of foliage in a window can provide a tranquil and attractive view as opposed to the parking lot or street while also offering a bit of privacy.

Herb gardens are insanely popular with everyone in any style dwelling. Can you think of any other way to get all natural, organic seasonings than by growing them yourself? Not only are they visually attractive, but they are close at hand so you can pinch a few leaves to spice up any dinner. It just doesn’t get any fresher than that.

Get Creative

If you just have to have that full sun plant, but the only area you have available is a dim corner, go for it. Try graduated size corner shelves with plant lights as accents. Now you have a beautiful, lively corner, and it is lit to draw the eye.

No room on the windowsill? Pull the couch out a bit, add a narrow table behind it, and fill the table with beautiful blooms.

Air plants are miracles when it comes to decorating. Simply mount them like artwork throughout your home and mist them occasionally.

No matter what plants you decide to decorate with, always tend to their needs. Buy a spray bottle and mist them every day. Twice a year, scoop out half of the potting soil and replace with new, mixing it in carefully to replace the nutrients. Take a soft washcloth wet with plain water and wipe the leaves regularly to remove dust so your plant can take in water, oxygen, and sunlight.

Well placed and tended plants will thrive, providing you with the perfect accent to your decor, and they will give you many years of beauty and happiness.
